The schools here get off for a winter break around Carnaval and everyone tends to go somewhere. Many people spend the week in Austria skiing; we decided to hit the beach and headed to the Canary Islands (off the coast of Spain). It was a low-key easy trip. No sightseeing, just relaxing and enjoying the sunshine. Several things made us laugh, and we wanted to share them with you:
• Nicholas and Lindsey yelled “Hola” off the balcony of the hotel to anyone who passed by.
• Lindsey’s bathing suit has tiny sand particles stuck in the fabric as her favorite thing was to dive bomb into the sand.
• Nicholas introduced us to “Sand Man” the superhero extraordinare (until we made him wash off the sand before sitting on the beach towel)
• There was a McDonald’s very near a nude beach and next to a Hooters (although tops were apparently optional on the “regular” beach)
• Lindsey singing Rudolph the Red Nose reindeer whenever there was a lull in the conversation.
• Listening to the kids say, “Grand Canaria” with a French accent (if you are hocking up a loogie on the second word, you’re saying it like them).
Humorous quotes from the kids:
• “I like it, just not the mint part,” said Lindsey after a bite of mint chocolate chip ice cream
• “ When I grow up, I want to be a bus driver, “ said Nicholas after our third day of taking the hotel bus shuttle to the beach.
• “Does it snow here?”
“No.”
“Do they celebrate Christmas here?”
“Yes.”
“I want to move here,” said Lindsey after making sure the important things were settled.
